Mistah Al

Tis I, Munchkin.

Yesterday was a nice day. At least that is what Mummy said. The big yellow ball in the sky wasn't playing hide and seek behind the cotton balls in the sky (like the ones used to clean my bottom) and was being quite friendly. I waved at it...and it made me feel all warm, like I was being cuddled really close.

Mummy then decided that it would be a good idea to give me a good sunning. Probably to get rid of the slightly jaundiced hue of my skin (tis her fault for being yellow, anyway). So I sat in my highchair and watch mummy tidy up the garden (before Ah Ma gets here as she has standards, not like Mummy). This tired me out and I went for a long nap.

When I woke up (to find Daddy spending time with Ms Croft again), Mummy decided that we were going for tea with Mistah Al. Al Fresco is his name. He never turned up though so we just sat outside and had fun....that is till Daddy scared with the buzzing plane machine. I didn't like it so I hid in Mummy's shoulder till it went away. Then it was time for bed.

The Texans are coming, Hurrah! Hurrah!

They have been gone for 6 long months. But...the texans may be coming back for a visit in July. Fingers, toes and everything crossed.

East and West

Munchkin is in for a bit of a shock . He has no idea how many people he is going to meet when he gets off that plane in Malaysia. Not only will he have to contend with the time difference, the humidity and the heat, he is going to have to be exposed to all the siau Hokkien and Hainam lang who are all very loud. "Geramnya!" they will say as they pinch his little cheeks. "Chian tee nam, lah!" some will say as they sniff at him in a strange bloodhound-esque manner. Poor Munchkin.

He will then be fed all sorts of foreign matter. He will be spoken to in many different chinese dialects (all at FULL volume - there are two volumes in chinese, mute or LOUD) and who knows, my grandma might actually make him do THE TEST. A few different things are laid out on a platter, and Munchkin has to choose one. This will (of course, who are we to doubt) determine his life's destiny. Bet Munchkin picks food, though. There might be gold to signify riches and stuff to represent intellectual advancement but Munchkin will pick FOOD.

Mama always said that chinese people live to eat......after all, that is what teeth are for!

Murals (or is that Muriels)

Copyright Ah ee. Ah ee made this and posted it on her blog. No doubt Ah Ma will want a laminted copy to go with the passport sized picture for her purse! Who knows? She might also want a replica painted on her wall to make up the Munchkin shrine. Siau Ah Ma!

I worry about that girl, sometimes, siau ginnar! But it is kind of nice and it is all driven by love (and in my sister's case utter devotion, bordering on the obsessive - but that is also kind of nice in a "special" way).

Welcome to the world of bloggers, Ah Ee. Long may it continue.

NB All insults in Hokkien.

Bother!

T is working all weekend and the weather forecast is....GRIM to say the very least. I had it all planned out. I was going to be working out in the garden, getting the flower beds turned and summer bulbs in so that Mama would have some colour to welcome her in August. Also, a tidy up is needed so we are not shamed when Mama arrives and shakes her head in dismay at the state of the beds - pristine when Mama & Papa left them last year. Mr Weather says "No-can-do!"

So, Munchkin and I are confined to the indoors cave. This morning we have been playing in boxes and playing tag with the cats. Munchkin is IT. He "crawls" along on his tummy after the unsuspecting cats until they jump into an empty storage box. He then shimmies up to the box and peers at them and giggles. This is a GREAT game.

Munchkin and I will also probably be entering the baking cave this afternoon at this rate. Cakes are called for in times of bad weather. It is all win really, the house is warm (and smells nice) as the oven is on and we get to indulge later on. Not with tea or coffee though. The household no longer has these beverages on a regular basis. Wot? Even T? Yes! Even T! T has discovered Rooibos tea (red bush) and actually prefers the stuff to tea or coffee. Wonders never cease.

We're all going for a summer holiday

The tickets have been booked! We are going to Malaysia. All three of us are so excited we could burst. T is going for the food, I am going for my sister and parents and Munchkin is going to grace his extended fan club with his presence and perhaps sign some autographs while he is there.

Ah Mah and Ah Kong have been very busy preparing for the arrival of Prince Munchkin. T & I are concerned that he might come back a spoilt brat boy. To date he has got a paddling pool, many duck friends, a ball (educational, of course!), some outfits and a scary chinese costume (red, obviously). Last but not least though, he has a new cage, ahem, cot to sleep in as well.

It is going to be a long flight, in excess of 12 hours. We hope we survived the flight as there is so much to look forward to the other end. Munchkin will get to meet his Ah Tow for the first time (my grandma on my mother's side) and all his (noisy) Great Aunts and Uncles. We are all very, very excited.

T has been lusting over the food for weeks. As he is number one golden son (in law, but might as well be Son), Mama & Papa have been scouring the town for the best places to eat T's favourite things e.g. roti canai & Tosai (southern indian breads), hokkien noodles, satay and kon lo mee with char siu (stirred noodles with chinese roast pork). I think they could write a guide book now "Kuantan - the glutton's tour" No doubt we will return to England many pounds heavier, many tears lighter and with plans to go "back home" again soon (to top up on the calories)

P/S There will probably also be a whole slab of Tiger beer cans waiting for T. Chilled to his liking and served with love by Mama (world's oldest Tiger Girl!)

They don't make 'em like they used to...

This week Munchkin has mainly put a stamp of approval on:

  • Vintage Cheddar - none of that mild stuff for Munchkin
  • Vintage red wine - lip smackingly delicious

So in with the old and out with the new......this week anyway.

Bee in his bonnet

Munchkin is well again. In fact, he is more than well, he is Munchkin.

We have had a smashing weekend despite the snow and the gales. Munchkin has discovered that there is a very exciting world outside the back door i.e. the garden. He gets very excited when the back door is left open revealing all that lies beyond.

Yesterday, we thought that leaving the back door open had let in a pesky friend. Both T and I heard a buzzing sound in the kitchen and set about trying to find the bee/fly/wasp before the cats did. We searched high and low but in vain. We then stopped looking and suddenly realised that the buzzing was coming from the vacinity of Munchkin. In fact, it WAS Munchkin.

This week's new sound is Bzzzzzzzz Bzzzzzzz Bzzzzzz

Zen-less of Gloucestershire

The munchkin household has been plagued with the lack of Zen this week. Munchkin's maladay began on Sunday and still lingers. The temperature and sickness have gone leaving behind snot slugs. Rivers of the stuff resulting in a very unsettled Munchkin with a lack lustre appetite. The presence of snot has come between Munchkin and his food. Not a usual occurence. So much so, there is a marked reduction in Munchkin's previously well nourished self.

T and I are suffering the consequences of broken sleep. Yet we are thankful. Munchkin has started sleeping pretty much through the night again. We are all a bit weary but can now see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Nunc est bibendum!

Munchkin Malady

Things can only get better, said she...famous last words. What does she know anyway?

On Saturday, I, the Munchkin was practicing my standing. I find this quite challenging seeing that my head is just so large in proportion to my body...it is difficult carrying such a burden on one's shoulders what more support that AND my prosperous middle section on two little leggies. One minute I was standing, the next minute I was staring at the ceiling. Something had made a big BOP sound on the floor as well. Irresponsible parents. Why hadn't they tiled the floor with goosedown pillows to cushion my swoon? Anyway, I let them know about it for a minute or so then felt I couldn't be bothered any more...after all it takes less muscles to smile than to cry or frown. Don't want to go wasting all those calories on nothing. Between you and me it was only my pride that was slightly damaged. So I will let them off this time.

On Sunday, I didn't feel so hot. Perhaps it was the chilli that mummy had that daddy cooked. Needless to say, under the weather was I. Typical. I was due to go and impress some Laydees on Sunday. The lovely ladies (sisters, no less) on the Upper road awaited...I turned up (little soldier that I am) but promptly threw up on the floor. Well, I made a lasting impression if nothing else. No press is bad press. I was ushered home by mummy and daddy (amidst a string of apologies). By this time, I had had enough, I was tired, very tired so I lay in mummy's arms drifting in and out of sleep. Next thing I knew, I was whisked off to the hospidaddle where a nice quack man saw me. Well, he was nice until he prodded my ears and throat and put an ice cold something on my chest, on my BARE SKIN. To think they were surprised when I cried.

I couldn't sleep at night, I felt like I was in an oven. Mummy looked after me though and stayed with me till the birds started singing. I must have fallen asleep then.

This morning I feel a bit more like the old Munchkin, perhaps a little subdued but I will try and make up for it later. Mummy looks a bit haggard this morning. I must remember to tell her to put some slap on. Standards, woman. Munchkin will not have his mummy look like a washed out rag. But, this time, I guess she has an excuse...actually she doesn't look too bad having only had 2 hours sleep. Perhaps she needs some of that beauty sleep, quite a bit of it, I would recommend.

A month in the life of us

It has been a long month. Lots of water has passed under the bridge as there has been so much rain. It has been torrential at times. Thankfully, the precipitation has reduced to an occasional drizzle and some days the sun makes a guest appearance.

We are back on an even keel now we think. Mary Poppins is back on form, T is back from death's door (from his many ailments - far worse obviously because he is a man!) and the Munchkin....well, remains as always the Munchkin.

So what's new? Munchkin has got 1 new tooth with another on the way. He gets about...by flinging himself from back to tummy and vice versa, he tends to sleep on his tummy (though he tends to forget that he has put himself in that position in the first place so tells us off upon waking for leaving him asleep like that!), he commando crawls....in reverse which is frustrating for him as the toy in his sights just gets further and further away. He has tried beef, lamb, chicken, trout and pollock and managed to keep it all down. He has had 2 haircuts and one bump on the head.

And he is ever, as Munchkin is....Munchkin

Things can only get better.

Munchkin Mummy Moment

Mummy went through a bit of a tough time having me so Daddy and I decided that for Munchkin Mummy's day we would treat her nice. We had it all planned. Munchkin would have a lie in then Daddy would come and wake and change Munchkin.

To make it even more special, me, Munchkin, decided that all my pongy munchkin messes would be saved especially for daddy, to give mummy a rest on her special day. Daddy and I had also pre-arranged that we would have free reign of the kitchen so that we could provide mummy with yummy nourishment. I took on a supervisory role. Daddy did very well getting the cross hats and pain oh! chocolates in the oven. Such strange euphemisms for such yummy grub. There was nothing painful about the chocolates..they were yummy as were the lovely buttery cross hats. Such a big to do about nothing really. Adults.

Anyway, mummy was very impressed. I could tell as she kept smiling and saying what a clever boy I am to motivate daddy into action like that. We had a lovely day. I had lots of cuddles. Well, it makes mummy happy and she should be allowed to do things that make her happy on Mummy day. So it is a small sacrifice on my part

In the evening, I went off to sleep at the usual hour to allow the parents some grown up time. There was a lot of frivolity downstairs. I guessed that they must have had Al over again. Al Kohol is one of their friends who lives in a hole in the ground. Daddy often has to go and get him. I guess Daddy is only making sure he doesn't get lonely there on his own.

Hmm...I wonder when Munchkin day is.

P/S I inspected the kitchen this morning and despite the appearance by guest chef daddy, it looked pretty tidy. Mummy must be feeling especially blessed.

01 March 2008

It's been a hard day's night

Well actually, it has been one b*&t?%d fortnight. With one thing or another, the events in the last two weeks have left T and I weary. But I think it is all system's go again now, Mary Poppins is back in action , Munchkin does NOT have the squitting from all orifices bug and I am well on the way to getting remote access to work systems so that if an emergency crops up again, I should not be so isolated from my working world (sad, I know but totally necessary - spuds on the table and all that jazz!)

I have been told that my special little boy (that is what it says on my Valentine's Day card....well acutally the poor little mite thinks it is Alan Tyne's day...who's he? Bless, he is by no means advanced for his age!) has something in store for me tomorrow. He has been out shopping with his dad and they have requested free run of the kitchen for all of tomorrow starting at breakfast. Eating is very important in this household so I look forward to my special day tomorrow. Apparently, he has even bought me a card to mark the occasion of my first Mothers' Day. I have not the heart to tell him that this is my 7th....as I am the cats' mum as well. Though I have probably been disowned by Chofuz cat as I managed to squish her paw in the door today...resulting in a squeal and a hiss (at the door, not me!)

So I await in anticipation for tomorrow. After the time we have had, I can only hope that there is alcohol (malfrahol to Texans) involved , for medicinal purposes only, of course.

P/S As part of my treat, Tomb Raider Anniversary for the widowmaker machine (xBox) has arrived today....am I missing something? This is partly the chief oracle's fault...for talking me into relenting to the purchase of the beast but as I trust her judgement unquestionably, I bow to her wisdom and trust there is something in it for me! (am I naive or what?)
